Our founder

Built by an operator, not an advisor.

Alex Day founded Sheltowee in 2000. His background spans physics, mathematics, and the Russian language, and over the years he has worked with hundreds of companies to help them achieve their goals.

In 2004 he co-founded Kentucky BioProcessing, where he was instrumental in securing a $25 million DARPA contract and the development of the first vaccine for Ebola shown to be effective post-exposure. That is the kind of work we are built for: deep, technical, and done in the room rather than from a distance.

Where the name comes from

Sheltowee.

Sheltowee, meaning Big Turtle, was the name the Shawnee gave Daniel Boone in 1778 when they adopted him. Boone was an extraordinary explorer and frontiersman who opened up new territories.

We aspire to live up to our company's namesake by opening up new frontiers for innovators.

Our core values

What we are built upon.

Sheltowee is built on a handful of values we do not compromise. They decide the work we take, how we carry it, and who we carry it with.

Help others.

Act in a kind, ethical, and transparent fashion.

Honor those who assume the risk.

Expect a financial return on your interactions.

We place values and principles above finances. We do not take a project solely based on the dollars. The money should never prevent an amazing innovation from reaching the world.
