Kentucky is aiming for the top of the charts, with a bullet.
"All it takes in this industry is one hit," said Alex Day of Sheltowee, formerly Sheltowee Pharmaceuticals. Day told participants at the first Kentucky Conference on Natural Products Innovation yesterday that his company is recruiting chemical companies with the kinds of financial assistance they need before they qualify for venture capital.
That's the kind of help that turns a great idea into a mega-hit and the kind of spotlight that Kentucky wants to shine on its embryonic biotech industry.
Sheltowee, a Kentucky company, is nurturing several products: a natural proton-pump inhibitor, a fiber product for weight loss, new technology to treat menstrual cramps, a company focused on joint health, and one, Novera, that focuses on wound healing.
