Our Name

The name "Sheltowee" was given to Daniel Boone by the Shawnee Indians. Born in 1734, Daniel Boone spent nearly his entire adult life exploring the wilderness beyond Virginia and the original 13 colonies. His trailblazing journeys into the unknown frontiers of Kentucky, Missouri and Illinois were the inspiration for our name, which serves as a constant reminder of our mission as trailblazers on the technology frontiers.

Alex is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sheltowee, LLC. After receiving a B.S. in physics, Alex began his career with the pharmaceutical company Audax, Inc., as a technical liaison setting up animal studies for major pharmaceutical companies. He left Audax in August of 2000 to found Sheltowee. Since that time Sheltowee has: managed a small state funded venture capital fund; assisted in the establishment of multiple companies including Kentucky BioProcessing, LLC, Scout Diagnostics, LifeTrack, LLC, and PolarPointe, LLC; founded the Kentucky Life Sciences Organization; served as the Chairman and report author for the Governor’s Life Sciences Consortium; served as a board member on the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation; served as a board member on the Kentucky Tobacco and Research Board; and drafted a strategic plan for the growth of life science companies in the community of Owensboro, KY. Alex has substantial experience with strategic planning, business development, intellectual property issues, licensing, manufacturing under cGMP conditions, and economic development for the attraction and establishment of technology based companies.
